Many in the online casino industry, both company executives and online casino players, believe that online gambling bans present a major sign of hypocrisy. So where is the hypocrisy? It lies within the actions of the government institutions that support general forms of gambling, but ban online casinos gaming. On what grounds, you may ask. According to the government, the grounds for banning online gambling are of a moral nature.
Silvia Spring, a writer who recently wrote an article about the banning of the online casino industry by the US, noted that the European scene, namely France, Germany, Denmark, Finland, the Netherlands, Sweden, and Hungary, have legalized online casino gaming. Spring writes, ‘So what’s it really about? In recent months the EU has launched proceedings against all these nations for protecting national monopolies in violation of EU laws guaranteeing free movement for goods and services.’
Spring adds that the result of state protectionism for selected forms of gambling, whether it is land-based form or online casino form, is a business that flourishes in chosen places as a result of its banning elsewhere. According to this writer, land-based gambling will not pose a threat to online casino gaming, and will not help top stop its spread on the World Wide Web. If that be the case, than the online casino industry will be around for a long time to come, and the US government, as well as other countries, will simply have to admit defeat and legalize this popular pastime.
