The online casino industry looks forward to the annual Casino Affiliate Convention that takes place at different gambling locations. This year’s convention was due to take place at the Stardust Hotel and Casino in Las Vegas and was to have been attended by the who’s who of the online casino world. When online casino Bet on Sports CEO David Carruthers was arrested in the USA, the organizers of this year’s CAC vowed to go ahead with their plans of holding the event on US soil. However, things have certainly changed since then.
The recent arrest of Peter Dicks, chairman of online casino company, Sporting Bet has fizzled out the tiniest hope that Carruther’s arrest was not a direct target on the online casino industry itself. Traditional sponsors of the Casino Affiliate Convention started developing cold feet and when the first one pulled out, the others were quick to follow. Online casino affiliates such as CPays, Casino Blasters, Wager Share and Poker Affiliates, officially cancelled their trips to the USA and refused to let their staff and managers risk arrest by US authorities.
There are warrants out for arrest for scores, if not hundreds, of online casino representatives and it seems that the US is doing all it can to arrest anybody affiliated to offshore gambling who dares to set foot on its soil. Nobody can blame CAC for canceling the event, but is certainly seems a shame that the entire global online casino industry has to suffer due to the antiquated laws governing the US’s gambling industry.
