The fun and excitement, profit-making and anonymity of online casino sites is the key to their success, but also the source of problems. Responsible gambling is not something that comes along easily, and many an online casino gambler fall for this precise problem. This has brought leading online casino companies, software providers and regulatory organizations to address the issue, forming a working group and a time schedule by when to introduce a common code that will cover all online casinos around the world.
The idea of holding a series of meeting in a roundtable discussion group format has come from the recent online casino exhibit in London, in January. The codes of practice with regard to online casino gambling are “not ideal,” according to one top executive in the online casino industry, hence the goal of the new initiative – to design a single, common, covering-all code. “The formation of one clearly defined international code demonstrating best practice with a unified voice will strengthen communication to both the players and the industry as a whole,” the executive added.
The idea is to identify and protect problem gamblers at online casino sites. It brings to mind a comparable case of the alcoholic beverages industry, where similar actions were taken years ago. As a matter of fact, representatives from the drinking industry were invited to participate in the roundtable discussions, to tell the online casino industry representatives how they addressed such problems. The discussions are scheduled to culminate with a final product in the Autumn.
