While central Kansas counties line up to pursue the destination casino Sedgwick County lost, an Arizona development group has backed off its interest in a second option - a downtown Wichita gambling complex. Magna Properties, headed by Lloyd Buzzi and represented locally by Wichita attorney Harvey Sorensen, was one of two groups proposing the purchase of Century II, Expo Hall and the Hyatt Regency hotel from the city of Wichita. The Arizona plan appears to have died as Kansas legislators remain uncommitted to expanded gambling. Neither Buzzi nor company attorney Ron Henry in Washington, D.C., could be reached for comment. Another group, represented locally by attorney Tom Docking, remains interested (see related story, this page). Meanwhile, former Wichita Mayor Bob Knight says he sees "no way Sedgwick County can get back into" the multi-county bidding for a $270 million Foxwoods casino. Park City Mayor Dee Stuart, whose city was the original intended home of the casino, is seeking support for a casino referendum from Sedgwick County cities.
